Surah Al Hashr Ayat 11 Translation Tafseer

Para 28 - قَدْ سَمِعَ اللّٰهُ

بِسْمِ اللّٰهِ الرَّحْمٰنِ الرَّحِیْمِ

59.11

اَلَمْ تَرَ اِلَى الَّذِیْنَ نَافَقُوْا یَقُوْلُوْنَ لِاِخْوَانِهِمُ الَّذِیْنَ كَفَرُوْا مِنْ اَهْلِ الْكِتٰبِ لَىٕنْ اُخْرِجْتُمْ لَنَخْرُجَنَّ مَعَكُمْ وَ لَا نُطِیْعُ فِیْكُمْ اَحَدًا اَبَدًاۙ-وَّ اِنْ قُوْتِلْتُمْ لَنَنْصُرَنَّكُمْؕ-وَ اللّٰهُ یَشْهَدُ اِنَّهُمْ لَكٰذِبُوْنَ(11)

Kanz-ul-Irfan

Did you not see the hypocrites saying to their brothers, the disbelieving People of the Book, “˹We swear,˺ if you are expelled, we shall most definitely leave with you, and we will never obey anyone in your matter. And if you are fought, we will most certainly help you.” [1] Allah bears witness that indeed they are liars.

Commentary

The hypocrite ʿAbdullāh ibn Ubayy ibn Salūl and his ilk said to their brothers, the disbelievers of the People of the Book from the tribes of Banū Qurayẓah and Banū Naḍīr, that if they are expelled from Madinah, they too would go along with them and that they would not accept anything against them. Moreover, they claimed that if they were fought against, they would come to their aid and fight alongside them. This conversation of the hypocrites took place in secrecy. Allah Almighty informed His beloved صَلَّى الـلّٰـهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم of this in this verse and mentioned the state of the hypocrites in the following verse.
